The Glooscap Heritage Centre will be hosting the National Aboriginal Day celebrations at our centre located in Millbrook First Nation on June 21st, 2008. We invite local drummers /singers and dancers to contact Sharon Touchie; sharon@centralnovascotia.com or Crystal Dorey: crystal@glooscapheritagecentre.com or call 902 843 3496 if they would like to participate in the showcase of Mi'kmaq talent we are planning for this year's celebration of all things Mi'kmaq.
June 21st:
June 21 is celebrated across the country in honour of Canada's Aboriginal peoples. National Aboriginal Day, chosen for the significance to the summer solstice (the first day of summer and the longest day of the year), which is when many Aboriginal groups have always celebrated their cultural heritage. The Glooscap Heritage Centre recognizes the importance of National Aboriginal Day and will host an array of events to celebrate.
All are welcome to attend the day's celebration and to take part and learn from the showcase of Mi'kmaq history and talent. Please check back for detailed schedule of events.
Girl Guides and Scouts...
Visit the Glooscap Heritage Centre and learn about the Mi'kmaq. Program and tour meets criteria for Cultural/Aboriginal Awareness Badges. Tour will be lead by a Heritage Interpreter. Guides will learn about the Mi'kmaq culture, stories and celebrations. Cub Scouts will learn about inventions, the way of life and how the Mi'kmaq survived off the land.
When: Monday to Thursday evenings
Location: 65 Treaty Trail, Truro, Nova Scotia
Cost: $3.00 per child (one leader for every five children admitted free)
